ABOUT ME
I am a life-long writer, and as the birth of our 2 boys re-affirmed for me, an educator at heart. I believe that teaching is about stimulating both creativity and critical thinking, and the teacher's role is enabling pupils to flourish. I firmly believe that a good tutorial or seminar is one where different minds engage to arrive at thoughts and enthusiasms none could reach individually.
I've spent the last few years tutoring and working in schools, so I have a keen awareness of the challenges that our UK Education system can entail for pupils and families alike. I have significant experience of Neurodivergence and SEN needs and can tailor tutorials accordingly.
On the Creative Writing side, I mentor students (young adults and adults) who wish to work on finding their own narrative voice, or who have a first (or third!) draft, and want help making changes.
On the English Literature and Language side, I work with students preparing for GCSE, A-Level and University Entrance exams and interviews. It is deeply rewarding to hear back from students and their families when they have managed to improve their grades, and I take real pride in being able to help pupils develop.
I grew up between Bradford and Leeds, and studied English at Liverpool University and then onto Oxbridge for a fully funded Phd... which I didn't quite finish! It's been a long road to getting published, and you can read more about my own writing in My Portfolio.
